Secondly, but of equal importance, the work captures the personal reflections and experiences of African Americans during a critical time in American and Black American history.

The anticipated long term benefits of this oral history include archiving the history of Tuskegee University itself. All of the study materials will be deposited in the Tuskegee University Archives and become a permanent part of the Tuskegee University Legacy Museum.

It is expected that this research will help present and future students understand how their academic pursuits and lives intersect with the historical sacrifices and accomplishments of other Tuskegee University (Institute) students. Employing multimedia capabilities is specifically intended to broaden the accessibility of the Tuskegee Experience.

Over the last twenty-five years, the United States military has seen the abolition of a separate corps for women, the appointment of women serving as general officers and an unprecedented increase in the ratio of women to men.

Women are now permitted to serve on combat planes and ships, still, despite these developments, the majority of the population knows very little about women in the military, particularly those who serve in the non-commissioned officer ranks.

The “Unspoken Warriors” documentary which features oral histories of 10 U.S. Air Force female Chief Master Sergeants (CMSgts) between 1980 and 2010. The discussion focuses on the diverse roles and impact of women in military leadership career fields before and during the War on Terrorism, Desert Storm, Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom (Afghanistan). Findings focus on resiliency, equal opportunity and the dramatic technological, social, cultural and military policy changes in military service for women.

Study partners included the U.S. Air Force Archives and the National Women in Military Service Memorial and Foundation. The project materials is housed in the permanent collection of the Women in Military Service Memorial and the U.S. Air Force Archives.
